Smoke Rings

Blowing smoke rings in the air!
The gentle movement hypnotizing.
Yet I'm aware of the room around me.
And the embarrassment of my stare.

Does he know that I am watching,
As he hones his occupation?
Is he lost to all around him?
I'm spellbound still as zeros rising.

Teenage cousins left all alone.
Only four years apart in time.
Neither knows the world of the other.
She is 12. And no awareness of her is shown.

Smoke rises upward toward the ceiling.
She wonders if she should be impressed.
Would she someday attempt the endeavor?
Conflictions enter her thoughts and feelings.

Strange that this brief portion of time
Will inger in her mind forever.
Cousins, true, but strangers always.
Smoke rings in a moment of time.
